Wind-type outflows in Seyfert 1 active nuclei

چکیده
A sub-relativistic, thermal wind-type flow could represent the physical connection between the central engine and other observed components of the central region, such as the Broad Line Region (BLR) and X-ray/UV absorbers. Observational clues as to the existence of such outflows in radio-quiet Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs) are provided, for instance, by blue shifted absorption lines in Seyferts and Broad Absorption Line Quasi Stellar Objects (BAL QSOs). We study a model for wind-type flows in Seyfert 1s and explore the physical conditions of the outflowing gas, taking into account explicitly both heating and cooling processes, including Compton interaction with radiation. A distributed heating source along the wind way turns out to be necessary for this nuclear wind existence and restrictions on physical parameters to obtain a reasonable wind model in the AGN context are identified; we also allow for externally originated mass loading of the wind.

Large-scale Parker Winds in Active Galactic Nuclei
We build and test Parker-wind models to apply to observations of large-scale (∼ 100pc) outflows from Active Galactic Nuclei (AGNs). These models include detailed photoionization simulations, the observed radially varying mass profile, adiabatic cooling, and approximations for clouds dragged along in the wind and the interaction of the wind with the circumnuclear ISM of the galaxy. We test this ...

For the past decade, ionized outflows of a few 100 km s from nearby Seyfert galaxies have been studied in great detail using high resolution X-ray absorption spectra. A recurring feature of these outflows is their broad ionization distribution including essentially ions (e.g., of Fe) from neutral to fully ionized. The absorption measure distribution (AMD) is defined as the distribution of colum...
متن کاملNMA Survey of CO and HCN Emission from Nearby Active Galaxies
High resolution (a few arcseconds) observations of CO(1−0) and HCN(1−0) emission from nearby Seyfert galaxies have been conducted with the NobeyamaMillimeter Array. Based on the observed CO distribution and kinematics, we suggest that a small scale (a few 100 pc a few kpc) distortion of the underlying potential seems to be necessary for Seyfert activity, although it is not a sufficient conditio...
متن کاملNuclear Luminosities and Radio Loudness of Seyfert Nuclei
Historically, Seyfert nuclei have been considered to be radio-quiet active galactic nuclei (AGNs). We question this widely held assumption by showing that the distribution of the radio-to-optical luminosity ratio, R ≡ Lν(6 cm)/Lν(B), when properly measured for the nuclear component, places the majority of type 1 Seyfert nuclei in the category of radio-loud AGNs, defined here as objects with R ≥...
متن کاملNew Chandra/ HST-STIS results on Seyfert I AGN: Photoionized Outflows
We present soft X-ray results from observations with Chandra (HETGS) of the Seyfert I AGN NGC 4593 and Mrk 509. We discuss the photoionized outflows associated with Seyfert I AGN in terms of their absorption spectral signatures and discuss their kinematics, column density and ionization state. We discuss the link between UV and X-ray absorbers in Mrk 509 (which was simultaneously observed with ...
